The Iron Deficiency Test is a quick test that checks for iron deficiency and anemia using a blood sample. Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in the body. This test detects low levels of ferritin, which can indicate iron deficiency and anemia. If the ferritin level is below 30 ng/ml, it may mean there is an iron deficiency. Iron deficiency and anemia are common, especially in children and women who have periods. Symptoms include extreme tiredness, difficulty concentrating, headaches, pale skin, muscle and joint pain, weight gain, heart palpitations, sleep disturbances, weakness, chest pain, fast heartbeat, or shortness of breath. Mild iron deficiency anemia usually doesn’t cause serious problems, but if left untreated, it can become severe and lead to issues like heart failure, complications during pregnancy, and delayed growth in children.
